Today I’m flying a Boeing 777-300ER on a short domestic flight in China, traveling with China Southern Airlines from Guangzhou to Shanghai. This isn’t your typical shuttle flight - the 777-300ER is a long-haul widebody usually reserved for intercontinental routes, but in China, you can sometimes find it operating domestic hops. And honestly? This might be one of the best economy class experiences in China right now.

From a last-minute airport rush to a surprisingly empty Guangzhou Baiyun Terminal 2, this trip started with stress and ended with a fantastic onboard experience. China Southern’s 9-abreast Boeing 777 cabin offers wider seats than most modern 777s, solid legroom, personal screens at every seat, and even a full hot meal on a domestic flight. The cabin felt clean, modern, and comfortable and I even ended up with a “poor man’s business class” thanks to empty seats.

In this video, I also take a closer look at China Southern Airlines, one of Asia’s largest carriers and a major global aviation player. Headquartered in Guangzhou, China Southern operates one of the world’s largest fleets and is well known for flying large aircraft like the Boeing 777 and Airbus A380. From friendly cabin crew to consistent service, this flight shows why China Southern remains my favorite Chinese airline.

As we descend into Shanghai Hongqiao Airport, I share a pro tip on choosing the right Shanghai airport and wrap up with my honest verdict. No drama, just a solid, comfortable, high-quality economy class flight that proves consistency matters more than luxury.
