All weights are in pounds. </b></font></p> <p> </p> <p><font face="Verdana" size="2"><b>FINDING THE AIRCRAFT WEIGHT</b></font></p> <p><font face="Verdana" size="2"><b>Navigate to the main folder that your 727 aircraft is installed and open the aircraft.cfg file with Notepad. Move down to the section Weight and Balance.</b></font></p> <p><img border="0" src="images/weight.jpg" width="347" height="214"> </p> <p><b><font face="Verdana" size="2">The numbers we are interested in are "empty_weight" and the station weights. Our empty weight is 97600 lbs, and we have one station with 21203 lbs. You may have more or no stations depending on who designed your aircraft.</font></b></p> <p> <img border="0" src="images/fuel_menu.jpg" width="92" height="204"></p> <p><font face="Verdana" size="2"><b>Next, in FS2002, go to your Aircraft - Fuel menu and get the total quanity, in this example we have 26,492 pounds loaded.</b></font></p> <p><font face="Verdana" size="2"><b>Now, let's add it all up: 97600 + 21203 + 26492 = 145295.</b></font></p> <p> </p> <p><font face="Verdana" size="2"><b>FINDING THE OAT</b></font></p> <p><font face="Verdana" size="2"><b>OAT can be obtained from looking at the TAT gauge on the ground with pitot heat off. </b></font></p> <p> </p> <p><font face="Verdana" size="2"><b>FINDING THE PRESSURE ALTITUDE</b></font></p> <p><img border="0" src="images/altimeter.jpg" width="117" height="116"></p> <p><font face="Verdana" size="2"><b>Pressure altitude is altitude corrected for non-standard pressure. The easiest way to get this is to put your airplane at the departure airport and set your altimeter to 29.92" or 1013.2 Mb. Then read the altitude from the altimeter. In this example, we have about 345 feet.</b></font></p> <p> </p> <p><font face="Verdana" size="2"><b>FINDING YOUR TAKEOFF SPEED</b></font></p> <p><font face="Verdana" size="2"><b>Using the chart below, start in the upper left block where it says pressure altitude. Our pressure altitude in this case is 345 feet, so we're going to enter the chart at -1001 to 1000. Now move straight over to the right to the column that our OAT range. Our OAT is 15 degrees, so we'll use the -54 to 39 column. The 727 has three flap settings available for takeoff, 5, 15, and 25. Flaps 5 will be quietest, but will use the most runway. We'll be using 15 in this example, so move down to the block with the large "15". </b></font></p> <p><font face="Verdana" size="2"><b>Our weight being 145,000 lbs, we'll interpolate between 140 and 150. We have four columns of V speeds available, but we'll have to use the first column since that is where are OAT falls. So, V1 (takeoff decision speed) and Vr (rotation speed) will be between 122 and 127 knots. We'll call 124 knots good. Our V2 (safety climb speed) will be between 139 and 143, or about 141 knots.</b></font></p> <p> </p> <p><img border="0" src="images/v_speeds.jpg" width="500" height="659"></p> <p> </p> <p><font face="Verdana" size="2"><b>SETTING YOUR SPEED BUGS</b></font></p> <p><img border="0" src="images/speed_bugs.jpg" width="114" height="113"></p> <p><font face="Verdana" size="2"><b>There's three speed bugs available for your reference. Different airlines have specific requirements on how you are to set your speed bugs. I prefer to set the first one to V1/Vr, the second one to V2, and the third to V2 + 20. Speed bugs are moved by clicking on one of several mouse areas on the airspeed indicator itself. You also have an airspeed cursor that is adjusted with the knob in the lower left corner. I like to set this to ATC or departure speed restrictions.</b></font></p> <!--msnavigation--></td></tr><!--msnavigation--></table></body> </html>
