Boeing C-97A/C Stratofreighter Pilot's Handling Notes

ENGINES

The C-97A, C-97C and KC-97E are powered by four 2650hp Pratt & Whitney R-4360-35A Wasp Major engines which are carburetted and turbocharged.  Each provides 3500hp for take off (at sea level) with water methanol injection. 

The constant speed propellers can be feathered and have reverse pitch. 

Automixture control is provided, but may be overidden.

Establish positive climb rate

GEAR UP 

ACCELERATE 170 KIAS @ <= 500 VSI

MINIMUM 500 feet AGL 

CALL for METO Power

AVOID - engine failure - If TOGA time reaches 5 minutes
